How to Adapt at Foreign College or University?
In many cases those who get the possibility to go to study abroad are the best students. But even the best of the best students can face with certain difficulties at foreign educational establishment.
Usually most part of students goes to study to the USA, Canada and some European countries where the system of education is reputable and recognized. If we take as an example the system of education in the USA, it has certain differences which can become difficulties for student who is not familiar with such peculiarities.
In many countries educational ethics determines to treat respectfully teachers, but in the USA situation is a little bit different. American teachers demand discussions, expressions of personal points of view from students even if it means to enter into a debate with teacher. For many students such behavior is rather strange and unusual.
Here are certain advices concerning behavior and activity at foreign colleges:
1. Communication in English – if you want to study abroad and Speak English, then it becomes easier for you to adapt to the new encirclement.
2. Learn to be flexible and accommodate to surrounding reality. The daily schedule of students who came to study abroad usually is full and there is no free minute, the only thing you can do is to accommodate to this.
3. Keeping academic honesty. Express your own thoughts and points of view don’t become copy-cat.
4. Ask questions if you don’t know something. American teachers are considered to be as one of the most welcoming and attentive teachers. If you have a questions, they’ll try to give you answer.
