How come some people learning english use simple words and short sentences, and some vice versa?
I’ve heard some english learners speak using simple words and shorter sentences, in sorta the same way the simple english wikipedia is written. For example: “These people do mean things” as opposed to “This group causes destruction”, but on the other hand, I’ve heard people who’s first language isn’t english use large words, and they’re always being specific with them. Which form is the most common among english-learners?
The speaker’s native language, his/her educational level and exposure to public speech play a role in the selection of words and expression of concepts.
