Too late to learn chinese?
I’m 18, born and raised in Vancouver and english has always been my first language. I do speak cantonese at home with my parents and occasionally with some of my hongeresque friends, but everytime I do, I have to inevitably substitute english words here and there.
My reading/writing is quite an embarassment.. ie. I can write my name and simple basic sentences like: “Today, I go to the park!”
So now I realize how important it is to have a second language, especially canto/mando… I’m wondering, is it too late for me to pick it up? (a side note… chinese classes are out of the question haha)
i dont think that it is too late if you are just going to learn the simple parts but if you want to go deep into it that might take quite a while but as a chinese saying goes huo dao lao xue dao lao ( means no matter how long you live you keep learning)
