Staying Motivated While Taking an English Course
Anyone relocating to the UK from a foreign country is advised to take an accredited English course. This is an immense help in learning the nuances and subtleties of the Queen’s English. It can help you avoid many an embarrassing moment and better prepare you for further education or career opportunities in the UK.
While many recognise the importance of completing an English course, they may not be properly prepared to stay with it and finish. We as humans often lack motivation for anything other than what gives us pleasure. So sometimes it is hard to stay on track. Take a look at these tips to ensure you don’t lose your motivation.
Advice for Staying Motivated When Learning English
No matter how many of life’s problems – from work troubles to a family illness to dealing with a broken down appliance – try to get in the way of your goal to Learn English, stay tuned in to what the instructor is saying. Participate in the English course and do your homework as assigned. Your teacher makes assignments for a reason. If you do not complete them, then you are not getting the value you paid for.
Practice, practice, practice. This is the best way to learn the quickest and help you stay motivated. No one is going to be mean if you cannot Speak English easily, but they will appreciate the fact that you are trying and often help in any way they can. This applies to friends and family as well as co-workers or even the employees at local shops.
Along with practicing, do not be afraid to make mistakes. You must try in order to learn, and making mistakes, then correcting them, is one way to enforce your lessons. Learn from your errors and you will quickly gain a good working knowledge of the language.
Preventing Boredom
Some instructors of English courses are not good at keeping the attention of their students. There is little you can do about changing the teacher, but you can change the way you respond to it.
If you find your attention wandering during the class, try thinking about your favourite song and what the words would be in English. When you come to class, sit in a different seat, if possible. Read a book in English and be prepared to discuss it in class. Most instructors will be happy that you are willing to participate in this way.
Taking an English course may seem like a dull chore at times. But remember that what you put it into your education is what you will get out of it. Do your best to keep learning and your motivation should naturally follow.
