Which Hindi words are more appropriate?
I am currently learning Hindi (I’m a beginner), and I am using two different sources as my main tools for my first steps of learning the language. However, I’ve encountered several examples of a word where one source calls it one word and the other source calls it something else. Here are the examples I have: Thank you: shukriya or dhahnavad? How: kaise or khesee? Indian: Hindustani or parteeyai? but: lekin or magar? English: Angrez or Angraizee? Maybe all of these are correct they are just meant for different situations? Anyways, I just want to know what the most common ways to say things are. I would prefer not to be laughed at by native hindi speakers when i say lekin if I should say magar. Thank you very much
Shukriya is Urdu
Dhaniyavad is actual hindi
kaise and khesee depend on the gender. Female is khesee and male is kaise.
So if you’re male I would say: kaise hai aap
If you’re female I’d say: khesee hai aap
As for Indian, I have no clue what partiyai means and I’m a native speaker. Are you sure you don’t mean Bharati or Bhartiya? Hindustani is more commonly used. If you were a politicia or a sophisticated Hindi newscaster you would use Bharati. It sounds a little too fancy for a regular conversation.
lekin or magar are used interchangeably, you shouldn’t be laughed at for used saying either
angraizee is the language English
angrez is the nationality
