What is the BEST BOOK on ENGLISH COMPOSITION AND GRAMMAR?
For people who are already quite advanced. Actually, name me lots of good books on the english language in general, (creative writing, expanding ones vocabulary, anything). Thanks.
I have shelves of books on grammar and composition, but the one open on my desk as I write this is the one that’s most often open on my desk: “The St. Martin’s Handbook” by Andrea Lunsford and Robert Connors. It’s fairly advanced, but fully accessible, with lots of examples.
(I was just explaining subjunctive mood to someone, and used it to find the exact rules.)
Edit: New editions cost a lot, but the language doesn’t change all that fast. Used ones of previous editions are cheap, and perfectly serviceable. I see one for $2.
